An eSIM is a digital SIM that activates on your phone via a QR code — no physical card. You buy a data plan for your destination before you fly, scan the QR, and your phone connects to a local network the moment you land.
Yes. Modern phones run two SIMs at once (your physical UK SIM + the travel eSIM). Calls, texts and WhatsApp continue on your UK number while data runs over the cheaper eSIM.
Almost every flagship from the last 5 years supports eSIM, including iPhone XS and later, Pixel 3 and later, and Samsung Galaxy S20 and later. US iPhones (14+) are eSIM-only.
